Paying your credit card from another bank

You can do this online

  • Transfer money at any time from your bank or building society account.
  • The payment should reach your credit card within 2 hours.
  • You can make extra payments even if you have a Direct Debit set up.

Keep in mind:

If you make an extra payment, we may still collect your Direct Debit in full.

How to do it

How to do it

We'll take it step by step.

  • You can also make a one-off payment, or a re-occurring standing order, from your current account in the same way you pay a bill or person. Using your chosen bank's app or Internet Banking, you’ll need these details to set up a new payee and complete a payment:

    Account number: 0000 0000

    Sort code: 77-29-00

Remember to include your most recent 16-digit credit card number as the payment reference, just so we know which account to apply your payment to. You’ll find this on your credit card itself, or on your most recent credit card statement.

  • If you have a UK debit card, you'll be able to pay your credit card using our app or Internet Banking service.

If your bank or building society isn't listed you’ll need to choose an alternative way to pay.

  1. Log in and select Pay & transfer. You'll find this at the bottom of your app screen.
  2. Select pay from another bank or building society. Then enter the amount you want to pay off of your credit card followed by Continue.
  3. Select your bank or building society. You'll be briefly handed over to the other bank's website or app. When prompted, approve the payment.
  4. All done. Your payment has been made. Please allow up to 2 hours to reach your credit card account.

We only share payment information. No other personal details are shared between banks. For full details and terms, please read our payment initiation services agreement (PDF, 64KB).

A look at the details

    • You can make payments to your credit card account at any time, but you need to pay at least the minimum amount shown on your statement each month by the due date. Your minimum payment is either 2.5% of your balance plus any interest and fees or £5 – whichever is higher. Learn more about minimum payments.
    • If you can't pay the whole statement balance, it's a good idea to pay as much as you can, as it may help to keep any interest costs down.
    • If you only make the minimum payment each month, it'll take longer and cost you more to pay off your balance.
    • If you miss or make a late payment, you are likely to be charged a late fee and damage your credit rating. You could also lose any promotional rates on your credit card and have to pay the standard interest rate instead.
    • Set up a regular Direct Debit payment and we’ll automatically claim your selected payment amount when it’s due.
    • If a Direct Debit isn’t taken for 37 months, it will become inactive, and your bank or building society will remove the details from their systems. If this happens, you’ll need to set up a new one.
    • You can also make payments, instead or in addition to a Direct Debit, from a bank account, with a debit card, by cheque or with cash at a branch.
    • If you choose to make one-off payments, just make sure that the method you use will get your payment to us on time.
    • Payments should reach your Bank of Scotland credit card account within 2 hours. This will then update your available credit.
    • Please allow at least 1 working day for your list of recent transactions to update.
  • You can change your payment due date to better suit your needs. For example, if you usually receive your salary later than your due date falls.

The fastest way to do this is through our Mobile Banking app or Internet Banking on a laptop or desktop computer.

    • On the Mobile Banking app, from your credit card account summary select the 3 dots, scroll to Manage Account. Select Change payment due date to begin.
    • To use Internet Banking, log in or register to get started. From your credit card account summary, select ‘More actions’, then ‘Paying your credit card’. Here, select ‘Request payment due date change’

Just be aware, your change may apply to a future payment, rather than the next one, depending on when you make your request.
