Benefits of making home improvements

We’ve become a nation of fixer-uppers and renovators. Staying put and giving your home a makeover is becoming increasingly popular. The benefits are clear:

  • You could enjoy the efficiency and practicality of a new kitchen or bathroom.
  • You could create more space for a growing family with an extension, new conservatory or loft conversion.
  • You could improve your outside space with landscaping or external building upgrades.
  • Make your home more energy-efficient by upgrading your insulation, installing a heat pump to replace your heating system or even adding solar panels. See our energy efficiency guide.

Keep in mind

  • Our loans for home improvements are available to customers who have held a Bank of Scotland Current Account for at least one month.
  • How much we lend and the rate available are subject to our assessment of your personal circumstances.
  • You may be able to take a payment holiday if you meet certain conditions. If you choose to do so, you will be charged interest for an extended period. That means you'll pay more for your loan overall.

If you decide to settle your Personal Loan early, we will charge up to 58 days' interest.

Your borrowing options

Deciding to borrow may not just depend on how much you need to repay each month, or how long it will take to clear the debt. Using our online borrowing options tool could help you decide which type of borrowing may be right for you.
