A look at the details

  • Change of name

You need either your driving licence, or EU or UK Passport. We're still rolling out this service, so it isn't available through Android yet. Write to us or visit a branch instead.

    Change of address

Call us if you need to:

    • update a child account
    • send mail to more than one address
    • update to an overseas or BFPO address.
  • When you contact us, we’ll update your name on all your Lloyds Banking Group accounts. That includes ones held with Halifax, Lloyds, MBNA and Lloyds Bank Private Banking.

Not all insurance policies sold by Bank of Scotland are managed by us. This means we won't update your name on them. Check your policy for contact details to change your name. It could affect your policy if you don’t.

  • To change your name in branch or in writing, you need to complete and print the right form first. Log in or register for online banking.

From the menu at the top of the page, select Your profileChange your contact details then Change name.

We’ll need both your old and new signatures, along with original or certified copies of some documents, depending on the reason for your name change. Bring the right evidence with you so that we can help.

Once you’ve got your completed form and documents, visit us in branch.

    Or write to us at:

Bank of Scotland, PO Box 23581, Edinburgh, EH1 1WH.

As we need original or certified copies of your documents, we recommend sending everything by recorded delivery. Once we’ve made your name change, we’ll return any original documents to you. If you need any certified documents returning, you must ask for this.

  • After a divorce

To change your name after a divorce, you’ll need your:

    • divorce papers or decree absolute
    • marriage certificate.

You’ll also need one of the following:

    • Deed Poll (not available in Scotland).
    • Your birth certificate.
    • A copy of the entry in the Register of Corrections (Scotland only).

    For any other reason

To change your name for any other reason, you’ll need one of the following:

    • Deed Poll (not available in Scotland).
    • Your marriage certificate or your civil partnership registration document.
    • A Statutory Declaration.
    • Your adoption certificate.
    • A copy of the entry in the Registry of Corrections (Scotland only).
    • An amended birth certificate issued by the Registrar General, Edinburgh (Scotland only).
